Despite a 7-run deficit in the fourth inning, Jay County Patriots Varsity almost came all the way back, eventually falling 9-7 to Wapahani on Thursday. Jay County Patriots Varsity scored five runs in the failed comeback on a by Max Moser in the fifth, a single by Ethan Myers in the fifth, a double by Wyatt Geesaman in the fifth, a single by Noah Arbuckle in the sixth, and a double by Geesaman in the seventh.
Jay County Patriots Varsity fell behind early in the loss. Wapahani scored on a wild pitch by Chandler Wise in the first inning, a single by Isiah Brosher in the second inning, a single by Wise in the second inning, and a triple by Tysen Lipscomb in the second inning.
Wapahani pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Brosher singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Arbuckle threw a wild pitch allowing two runs across the plate for Wapahani, and Lipscomb tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Jay County Patriots Varsity put up three runs in the fifth inning. Moser, Myers, and Geesaman powered the big inning with RBIs.
Riley Porter led the Wapahani to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He allowed nine hits and six runs over five and a third innings, striking out ten and walking zero. Wise threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Wise recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Wapahani.
Arbuckle led things off on the hill for Jay County Patriots Varsity. He allowed four hits and six runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Myers, Cole Stigleman, and Gaven Hare each contributed in relief for Jay County Patriots Varsity.
Jay County Patriots Varsity collected ten hits on the day. Stigleman, Payton Heniser, and Geesaman all managed multiple hits for Jay County Patriots Varsity. Stigleman led Jay County Patriots Varsity with three hits in four at bats.
