Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Jay County Patriots Varsity still held off Norwell for a 6-5 victory on Wednesday. Norwell scored four runs in the failed comeback on a double by Ian Clark in the fifth, a double by Christian Buhata in the fifth, and a triple by Korbyn Castello in the sixth.
Jay County Patriots Varsity grabbed an early lead. Jay County Patriots Varsity scored on a triple by Ryan Schlechty in the first inning, a double by Mitchell Frasher in the second inning, a fielder’s choice by Schlechty in the second inning, and a groundout by Max Moser in the second inning.
Jay County Patriots Varsity pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Frasher doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Logan House induced Schlechty to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Moser grounded out, scoring one run.
Noah Arbuckle was credited with the victory for Jay County Patriots Varsity. He lasted six and a third innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out three.
House took the loss for Norwell. He lasted three innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out two.
