Jay County Varsity Patriots Defeats Southern Wells On Back Of Clutch Display From Andrew Schemenaur By GameChanger Media Andrew Schemenaur drove in six runs on two hits to lead Jay County Varsity Patriots past Southern Wells 10-4 on Tuesday at Southern Wells Community Schools. Schemenaur doubled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two. Gavin Byrum, Brady Jetmore, and Schemenaur at the bottom of Jay County Varsity Patriots's lineup combined for five of the team's seven hits in their victory. They scored six runs and drove in six. Southern Wells got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Johnson doubled to center field, Bertsch singled to center field, and Eltzroth singled, each scoring one run. Jay County Varsity Patriots captured the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second when Schemenaur doubled, scoring three runs, and Carter Fugiett drew a walk, scoring one run. Holmes scored after tagging up, which helped Southern Wells tie the game at four in the bottom of the second. Jay County Varsity Patriots took the lead in the top of the third. Byrum scored after tagging up, to give Jay County Varsity Patriots the advantage, 5-4. Jay County Varsity Patriots scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Schemenaur doubled, scoring two runs, Wyatt Foster drew a walk, scoring one run, Joseph Geesaman hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Aiden Phillips grounded out, scoring one run. Phillips stepped on the bump first for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The starter gave up five hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking four. Yoder stepped on the mound first for Southern Wells. The starter allowed three hits and five runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Austin Myers pitched one inning of scoreless ball for Jay County Varsity Patriots in relief. The pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking two. Byrum and Schemenaur each collected two hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Jay County Varsity Patriots had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Foster and Garrett Bennett led the team with two free passes each. Foster, Leighton Brown, Fugiett, and Byrum each stole multiple bases for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Jay County Varsity Patriots stole nine bases in the game. Jay County Varsity Patriots were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Schemenaur had the most chances in the field with seven. Johnson provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Southern Wells with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Holmes, Friemuth, Bertsch, Johnson, and Eltzroth each collected one hit for Southern Wells. Couch paced Southern Wells with two walks.
