Jay County Varsity Patriots Loses Despite Out Hitting Yorktown By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots fell 9-6 to Yorktown on Thursday at Jay County Jr-Sr High School despite out-hitting them eight to seven. Wyatt Foster led Jay County Varsity Patriots with two hits. Jay County Varsity Patriots was right in it until Yorktown hit a home run to left field in the seventh inning. Yorktown jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after an error scored two runs, Witt singled, scoring one run, and a dropped third strike scored one run. Jay County Varsity Patriots jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Foster singled to left field, Austin Myers was struck by a pitch, Grant Wendel walked, and Aiden Phillips singled up the middle, each scoring one run. Yorktown flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Burkholder that drove in three. Burkholder earned the win for Yorktown. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out one and walking two. Zedrian Vazquez took the loss for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The hurler went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking none. Kade Sommers stepped on the bump first for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and six runs (two earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Whitt stepped on the hill first for Yorktown. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Myers provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Jay County Varsity Patriots with two runs batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Jay County Varsity Patriots turned one double play in the game. Burkholder went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Loveall led Yorktown with two hits in three at bats.
