Jay County Patriots Jr High’s Maddy Taylor Powers Through Union City Jr High By GameChanger Media Maddy Taylor hit two home runs and drove in two as Jay County Patriots Jr High defeated Union City Jr High 17-4 on Thursday. Taylor homered in the fourth and fifth innings. Zoe McLaughlin struck out 12 batters on the day. The righty also surrendered zero hits and zero runs over four innings while walking one. Jay County Patriots Jr High got on the board in the top of the first inning after Karsyn Schwieterman hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs, Sophia Reagan grounded out, scoring one run, and a dropped third strike scored one run. Jay County Patriots Jr High scored six runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth inning. Taylor hit a solo inside the park home run, Schwieterman tripled, scoring one run, McLaughlin singled, scoring one run, Reagan doubled, scoring two runs, and Aliyha Gilbert tripled, scoring one run. Six more Jay County Patriots Jr High runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 16-0. Taylor hit a solo home run to center field, McLaughlin doubled, scoring two runs, Ava Peterson doubled, scoring one run, Jaylee Twigg doubled, scoring one run, and Reagan singled, scoring one run. Jocelynn Brumedz opened the game for Union City Jr High. The starting pitcher allowed 20 hits and 17 runs (14 earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out six and walking two. Kyla Sims appeared in relief for Jay County Patriots Jr High. Jay County Patriots Jr High collected 20 hits in the game. Reagan went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. McLaughlin went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Jay County Patriots Jr High in hits. Boo Towell, Taylor, Twigg, Peterson, and Schwieterman each collected multiple hits for Jay County Patriots Jr High. McLaughlin threw an immaculate inning in the first, striking out the side on nine pitches. Jay County Patriots Jr High were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
