Game 1 Game Goes Down To The Wire As Jay County Varsity Patriots Loses To Mississinewa On Final Play By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots fell to Mississinewa 9-8 on Saturday at Mississinewa High School on the final play of the game. Mississinewa were down 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kyler Thompson doubled, scoring two runs. Jay County Varsity Patriots lost despite out-hitting Mississinewa six to five. Leighton Brown, Carter Fugiett, Gavin Byrum, Kade Sommers, Grant Wendel, and Andrew Schemenaur each collected one hit for Jay County Varsity Patriots. An error put Jay County Varsity Patriots on the board in the top of the second. Lio Matamoros grounded out, which helped Mississinewa tie the game at one in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third, Jay County Varsity Patriots broke up the tie when Gavin Baumgartner induced Aiden Phillips to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. Then a walk by Brown followed to extend the lead to 3-1. Mississinewa captured the lead, 9-8, in the bottom of the seventh after Bryson Vasquez singled down the left field line, and Thompson doubled to left field, each scoring two runs. Baumgartner earned the win for Mississinewa. The pitcher gave up two hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking two. Camden Fraley took the loss for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The hurler went one inning, surrendering three runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking three. Austin Myers started on the bump for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and five runs (one earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two. Phillips, Fugiett, Wendel, and Schemenaur each drove in one run for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Brown paced Jay County Varsity Patriots with two walks. Game 2 Powerful Pitching Performance From Kade Sommers Carries Jay County Varsity Patriots Past Mississinewa By GameChanger Media Kade Sommers was dominant on the bump, as the right-handed pitcher rang up 12 strikeouts in Jay County Varsity Patriots's 14-0 victory over Mississinewa on Saturday at Mississinewa High School. Sommers allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking three. Jay County Varsity Patriots got on the board in the top of the first inning after Austin Myers walked, Wyatt Foster walked, and Jay County Varsity Patriots scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run. Jay County Varsity Patriots added two runs in the second. Carter Fugiett doubled to center field following a 6-pitch at-bat, making the score 5-0. Jay County Varsity Patriots scored six runs on one hit in the top of the fourth inning.
