Game 1 Jay County Varsity Patriots Defeat Winchester By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots took down Winchester 7-3 on Saturday at Winchester Community High School. A single by Anderson put Winchester on the board in the bottom of the first. Leighton Brown tripled down the right field line, which helped Jay County Varsity Patriots tie the game at one in the top of the third. A double by Anderson gave Winchester the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third. Jay County Varsity Patriots took the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Brown hit a sacrifice fly, and Andrew Schemenaur doubled to right field, each scoring one run. Jay County Varsity Patriots added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning on four hits. Gavin Byrum singled, scoring two runs, and Braden Wells homered to center field, scoring two runs. Joseph Geesaman earned the win for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The starter allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Anderson took the loss for Winchester. The hurler went six innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two. Nick Snow and Aiden Phillips each appeared in relief for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Jay County Varsity Patriots amassed 11 hits in the game. Brown, Carter Fugiett, Schemenaur, and Byrum each collected two hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Andrew Schemenaur and Gavin Byrum each pitched for Jay County Varsity Patriots in the game. Schemenaur got Landen Porfidio to hit into a fielder's choice to get the last out. Jay County Varsity Patriots scored six runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Joseph Geesaman singled, scoring one run, Schemenaur singled, scoring one run, Byrum singled, scoring two runs, and Kade Sommers doubled, scoring two runs. A single by Sommers put Jay County Varsity Patriots on the board in the top of the second. Byrum earned the win for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking two. Porfidio took the loss for Winchester. The starting pitcher went three innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on five hits, striking out five and walking three. Schemenaur tossed two innings of scoreless ball for Jay County Varsity Patriots in relief. The righty gave up two hits, striking out five and walking one.
