Jay County Varsity Patriots Captures Lead Late In Victory Over Bluffton Varsity Tigers By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots defeated Bluffton Varsity Tigers 6-5 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at five in the top of the ninth when Leighton Brown singled, scoring one run. Bluffton Varsity Tigers got on the board in the first inning after Axton Beste hit a solo home run to left field. Kade Sommers hit a sacrifice fly, which helped Jay County Varsity Patriots tie the game at one in the top of the second. Jay County Varsity Patriots took the lead in the top of the sixth. Gavin Byrum singled, scoring one run, to give Jay County Varsity Patriots the leg up, 2-1. Chanley Shaw grounded into a fielder's choice, which helped Bluffton Varsity Tigers tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth. Jay County Varsity Patriots took the lead, 5-2, in the top of the eighth thanks to doubles by Andrew Schemenaur, and Byrum. Bluffton Varsity Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a single by Grayson Crowder, and a home run to left field by Dawson Lee. Aiden Phillips earned the win for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The righty surrendered four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Griffin Morgan took the loss for Bluffton Varsity Tigers. The hurler went three and one-third innings, surrendering four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three. Sommers started the game for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking three. Colton Arnold opened the game for Bluffton Varsity Tigers. The hurler gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three. Byrum led Jay County Varsity Patriots with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Brown and Byrum each collected two hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots.
