Jay County Varsity Patriots Secure Win Against Woodlan Jay County Varsity Patriots were victorious against Woodlan 7-4 on Saturday. Woodlan jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after #22 doubled, scoring one run, and #6 singled, scoring two runs. Brenna Ruble singled down the left field line, which helped Jay County Varsity Patriots tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth. Woodlan took the lead in the top of the fifth. #11 hit a solo home run to center field, to give Woodlan the leg up, 4-3. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jay County Varsity Patriots went back into the lead after Hallie Schwieterman doubled to center field, Woodlan committed an error, Zoe Mclaughlin singled to right field, and Ava Bice singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Mclaughlin earned the win for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The hurler allowed three hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. #19 took the loss for Woodlan. The reliever went one and one-third innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking one. Carley Trinidad stepped in the circle first for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The right-handed pitcher surrendered six hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking four. #14 stepped in the circle first for Woodlan. The starter surrendered seven hits and three runs (two earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. Jay County Varsity Patriots amassed 13 hits in the game. Schwieterman provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Jay County Varsity Patriots with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Mclaughlin and Trinidad each collected three hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Bice and Ruble each collected multiple hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots. #15, #11, and #6 each collected two hits for Woodlan. #6 went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
