By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots took Thursday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 6-5 walk-off victory over Woodlan at Jay County Jr-Sr High School. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the eighth when Kade Sommers singled, scoring one run. Jay County Varsity Patriots rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the fourth. Woodlan opened the scoring in the first after Minden doubled, scoring two runs. A fielder's choice by Giflenwater extended the Woodlan lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning. Jay County Varsity Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a solo home run to left field by Andrew Schemenaur, a single by Brady Jetmore, and an error. An error gave Woodlan the lead, 5-4, in the top of the eighth. Jay County Varsity Patriots jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Leighton Brown homered to left field, and Sommers singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Sommers began the game for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The righty surrendered six hits and four runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking four. Delagrange opened the game for Woodlan. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking none. Gavin Byrum appeared in relief for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Jay County Varsity Patriots tallied nine hits in the game. Schemenaur, Jetmore, and Sommers each collected two hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Brown, Carter Fugiett, Schemenaur, and Sommers each drove in one run for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Minden drove the middle of the lineup, leading Woodlan with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Woodlan's Hertig, the number eight hitter, led Woodlan with two hits in four at bats. Woodlan ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game.
