Game 1 Jay County Varsity Patriots Cling To Victory As Mississinewa Nearly Erase 6-Run Deficit By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots got out to a 6-run lead in the third inning and held on for an 11-9 victory over Mississinewa on Saturday. Mississinewa closed the gap by scoring on a single, a ground out, a single, a walk, a walk, and a double. A single by Mobley put Mississinewa on the board in the top of the first. Jay County Varsity Patriots took the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first thanks to singles by Leighton Brown, and Gavin Byrum. Jay County Varsity Patriots added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Wyatt Foster walked, Joseph Geesaman hit a sacrifice fly, and Andrew Schemenaur was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. Mississinewa tied the game in the top of the sixth thanks to a walk by Baumgartner, and a double by Mobley. In the bottom of the sixth, Jay County Varsity Patriots broke up the tie when Geesaman singled, scoring one run. Then a single by Brown followed to extend the lead to 11-9. Aiden Phillips stepped on the bump first for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The pitcher allowed six hits and six runs over four innings, striking out four and walking four. Timmons started on the bump for Mississinewa. The starter gave up four hits and six runs (five earned) over one inning, striking out two and walking two. Nick Snow appeared in relief for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Jay County Varsity Patriots tallied 11 hits in the game. Brown and Foster each collected three hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Schemenaur and Geesaman each drove in three runs for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Brady Jetmore collected two hits for Jay County Varsity Patriots in two at bats. Geesaman hit a home run to left field in the second scoring three, doubled in the second scoring two, and singled in the first scoring one. Jay County Varsity Patriots won thanks in part to 10 runs in the second inning. Geesaman homered to left field, scoring three runs, Gavin Byrum singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Garrett Bennett singled, scoring one run, Wyatt Foster was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Geesaman doubled, scoring two runs, and Andrew Schemenaur grounded out, scoring one run. Jay County Varsity Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Geesaman singled, scoring one run, Leighton Brown homered to left field, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs. Jay County Varsity Patriots added one run in the third after Carter Fugiett was struck by a pitch. Geesaman earned the win for Jay County Varsity Patriots.
